Baseball

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Did anyone see the baseball game on Fox Sports last night? It was a pretty good game. I don’t get to watch baseball as much as I’d like, but I actually had a few minutes to spare last night. The starting pitcher was particularly impressive. I think his name was Chad Orovo. He appeared to throw only two pitches, a fastball and changeup. However, his execution was flawless. Reminded me of Maddux back in the day.

Massage Therapy

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

It seems like there are a ton of massage therapy schools popping up everywhere. My uncle is enrolled in one, although he is going for radiation tech. I guess I have no problem with such schools, just some of them are unaccredited. If you plan to go to such an establishment, you can’t sue them later so check their credentials now!

Evidence Bash

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

There is no doubt how much magnifiers have made an impact on the world of crime and justice. Not to mention the advances in DNA, now one can be locked away for life or released from prison over a single strand of hair. One case I had comes to mind, I was trying to free my innocent client. The black hairs found in a duffel bag couldn’t have been his - you know why? Because they were dog hairs! My client was free and clear and got out of prison then began a suit against the state.

Pet Things

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

For those of you who do not know, I am an avid collector of animals. I have had to scale back since moving to a more modest home, but I still have four dogs. Two Jack Russel terriers, a dachshund and a Boston Terrier. Whenever I go out on a long trip, I have to hire someone to make sure they are well kept. I swear, I end up paying more to make sure my dogs are taken care of than I do on myself. The cost of pet supplies is just enormous. I end up paying about $50 a day on my pets when I’m gone and about $7 on myself for a cup of coffee and muffin in the morning.

Road Trip

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

As you can imagine, lawyers spend a lot of time on thr road and away from home. After graduation, I was weary of spending a lot of money on luggage. In fact, my first few years I used the same suitcase I had since my freshman year in high school. I soon found out that investing in new luggage would not be a bad idea and would help me out in the long run. Boy, was I right.

Barry Bonds

Monday, February 18th, 2008

As a law professional and sports fan, I can’t help but to get caught up in the whole baseball steroids controversy. I think a lot of it is garbage. For one thing, much of what these guys were taking back in the day were totally legal steroids. It’s what we like to call ex post facto here in the law profession. You cannot be guilty of a crime if it wasn’t a crime when it was committed!

Motorcycle Races

Friday, February 8th, 2008

This weekend, my friend Tom and I are going to the local drag strip to test out his new motorcycle. You’d have to get all the specifics from him, as he is the gear head. However, I know he accepts nothing less than fast. I am not sure if he plans to compete with his bike, his primary focus is to get it certified by some governing board in racing so it is an officially eligible bike. Last year he tried to get this certification, but was denied because of the led tail lights.

Insufficient Lighting

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Businesses these days are catching a ton of lawsuits from patrons who fell outside and claim there was insufficient outdoor lighting. Any place that isn’t completely illuminated after dusk is at risk for such litigation. That is why you see big box places and chain restaurant installing enough light to sustain life on another planet in thir parking lots. Americans as a whole are a sue happy group and it shows when it comes to stunts like this.

Pigeon Forge

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

When I was a child, I lived deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains near the Tennessee and South Carolina borders in the state of North Carolina. Besides the natural beauty, which was unimpressive to your average 11 year old, there was a city full of activities and theme parks a few hours away in a town called Pigeon Forge. I can remember to this day taking a trip deep into the heart of the Appalachians, renting Pigeon Forge cabins and spending the days at Dollywood. I haven’t been up there since adulthood, though.

Two Uncommon Charges

Sunday, November 11th, 2007

A teenager in North Carolina is facing two unusual charges for dropping a football from an airplane at a high school game. Flying well below the 1,000 ft. mandated by the FAA for large crowds and dropping the football netted him “dangerous flying” and “dropping objects at a sporting event” he has been suspended, faces pilot’s license suspension and the misdemeanor charges. I will sleep soundly tonight knowing this “dangerous flier” will not be dropping footballs on my roof.
