Financial Time

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

The law firm that I work at has recently taken action to improve the level of financial reporting. Last year was a very lucrative year, the first year in the black from what I understand. Apparently, we are going to hire on someone full time to take care of the financial matters just to stay straight with the IRS and other agencies.

New Book

Saturday, April 12th, 2008

If you remember, there was a lot of turmoil over in Pakistan a few months ago, especially after the assassination of their former Prime Minister. She was a woman of peace and left an amazing legacy that we can all look up to. Before she was murdered, she penned a book about how to bridge the gap between the western world and the world dominated by Islamic thought. I don’t think it’s on Oprah’s list, but if you are interested in world affairs and diplomacy, I recommend you check out Reconciliation: Islam, Democracy and the Westy by Benazir Bhutto.

Cousin Woes

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

My cousin was always a partier, but I never thought he’d have to end up in drug rehab. The consensus around my family was that one day he would stop all the drinking and smoking and end up a good person, that one day he would hit rock bottom and finally get help for himself. I guess that day has come and passed because he recently checked in. Here’s to hoping he can get his life back on track.

Water Heater Woes

Monday, February 18th, 2008

You know, noting is worse than going to New York City for three weeks only to come home and realize your water heater has failed you. I was ready to have a glass of wine and a cigar when I got home. I stepped into the shower and turned on the warm water… Warm it wasn’t, it sent a chill throughout my body. I called some people and they will be installing a tankless water heater sometime today.

Fear and Loathing

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Have you ever seen Johnny Depp and Benecio del Toro’s masterpiece known as Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas? Based on Hunter S. Thompson’s novel of the same name, it involves two guys going out to Las Vegas to cover a motorcycle race, but end up exploring the American Dream in a drug-induced haze. They go from a hotel in Vegas to casinos and find out what America is about after the sixties.

Downturn

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

There is no doubt by now that the economy is in at least a downturn. Foreclosures are up and people are becoming more and more cash strapped. Retail stores are slashing prices in hopes of getting people to shot again, with no avail. The government is stepping in, promising to send everyone a check. The real estate market is in a downturn as well, with prices dropping. Now is not the best time to train to become a real estate agent.

Bedroom Situation

Friday, January 4th, 2008

Being on the road all the time, I have had to sleep on many a mattress. Not every one of them is a supreme example of comfort. Personally, I prefer firm mattresses which are hard to find in lousy hotels. A lot of them are like sleeping on a giant pillow. You wake up tired and aching. It’s simply no good for my arthritis. Sometimes I would rather sleep on the floor than these dirty, uncomfortable mattresses. I wonder where my practice will take me next? Hopefully not the Motel 6.

Baby Injuries

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

Sometimes, even babies are victims of medical malpractice, an automobile accident, or other serious injury. Being in the field of law, I have represented hundreds of baby victims, all decked out in baby slings to keep their tiny arms stabilized. Seeing a hurt baby only makes it that much more urgent that I win the case on behalf of the family.

Chinese Toys

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

Have you heard about new sanctions on Chinese toys? Well, apparently many of them were being shipped over here containing poisonous amounts of lead. Several children were sickened by lead containing toy products originating from China. This is why it would be prudent to avoid metal Chinese merchandise, not only to support your children, but your country as well. This shouldn’t be reason to panic, though.

Silly Lawsuits

Monday, September 10th, 2007

Being in the business of law or even looking on as a curious observer will lead you to believe a lot of things about humanity. I think it’s strange how items that shouldn’t be sued over are - such as hot coffee, fatty meals, and toxic cigarettes. You;d think there would be more legitimate lawsuits, but there aren’t a lot. It’s not like you ever hear about a model rocket exploding in someone’s hand, but people spill coffee on their lap and get third degree burns all the time. It can be a crazy world in law, but as long as our peers take these silly cases, they’ll continue to be in the headlines.
