Banned Items

Friday, November 30th, 2007

I remember a few years ago those laser pointers were all the rage. You couldn’t go to a public event without someone pointing laser beams on everything. Locations all around started banning their use, and pretty soon the fad died. It was even prevalent in court rooms. Once someone painted a laser on Hon. Taylor’s forehead, the bailiff went crazy thinking a sniper was pursuing a hit. Now, even makeup mirrors are banned from the court room.

That Time

Friday, November 16th, 2007

I never realized just how detrimental that time of the month can be for my female colleagues. On the way to the big case, my associate had me stop at a drug store to find some PMS relief. After she got some medicine, she was back to feeling better. I’m just glad I don’t have to deal with that on a monthly basis, it really could get in the way of productivity.

Racial Tensions in La.

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Louisiana seems to be a hotbed of late for racial tensions. First, it was the Jena 6 controversy, then a noose hanging. The state then proceeded to elect a young Indian man as governor and went back to another race-based story this week. A bunch of white workers in the parish DA’s office who were replaced by a black incoming District Attorney are getting closer to winning their cases against the city.

Meth Principal Gets 2-4

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

A former middle school principal who was making nearly $80,000 a year admitted to having a problem with alcohol and narcotics. It was clear when he was caught selling methamphetamine out of his office. Though he wasn’t selling drugs to children, at least no cases are known, he still distributed the drug on school grounds. It’s surprising he will only get two to four years after this is revealed.

Quiznos

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

I was in court the other day at some important trial. I can’t really get into details, but lunch hour was needed. A prosecutor commented about the quoizel lighting, and I thought he said something about Quizno’s Subs. You know the place - the one that makes toasty subs. It got me to thinking about how very delicious tasty subs can be.

Boot Camp Staff Set Free

Friday, October 12th, 2007

A Florida jury found eight former private boot camp staff members not guilty in the death of a 14 year old detainee who died in their care. Despite physical restraint on an injured person, the jury didn’t even find the self-serving prison guard rejects guilty of a lesser crime. It’s despicable that these guys are going to walk away without even a slap on the wrist for the negligent death of a teenager. They couldn’t handle criminals and soldiers, so they pick on little hooligans. Just barbaric. Barbaric. Barbaric!
