BP Solar Decathlon
Every other year, teams of conservation minded college students get together in the BP Solar Decathlon to build houses that operate solely on solar power. Together with the U.S. Department of Energy, BP has been sponsoring this exciting event to educate people about the benefits of alternative energy. It’s no surprise coming from BP, as they are the only energy company sponsoring the event. They have always been at the forefront of environmental concern and alternative energy research, and this event exposes that same regard for the environment to a new generation of young people.
This year, the week long event will be held at the National Mall in Washington D.C. from October 11th through the 19th. Twenty colleges from around the world will be competing this year to see who is able to best build an energy efficient home that relies solely on solar energy to be livable. All the exciting updates can be found on a blog that will be updated as the event progresses. The blog is located at http://www.bpsolardecathlon.com! Be sure you check out what’s going on, as you are sure to learn a thing or two about energy efficiency just as the students are. This event highlights a very good cause - alternative energy - which will become more important to future generations.
